Zebaniah Scott Whitmore has arrived

At 4:26 am (pacific time) June 22nd, 2009 Zebaniah Scott Whitmore came into the world here in our home in Ballard (a Seattle neighborhood). Weighing in at 8 lbs 4 oz and 20+ inches long (length in slight question due to much squirming on Zeb's part), he was quite a bit bigger than his sister, EthnieMay, who was also born on June 22nd, one year ago.

Yes... Zeb has infringed upon EthnieMay's birthday! She was quite thrilled though - I literally have not seen her more excited than she was this morning when we brought her in to meet Zeb.

Hard labor started at 12:15 am Monday morning after a long weekend (started by a 16 hour-long round of labor on Friday that all together stopped mid-afternoon). Our birth team was composed of our midwife and two good friends, Liz and Lexi (Jenny Rose wasn't here Monday but was a huge help during Friday's round of labor). Charlotte labored well through the four and a half hours of intense back labor. At one point she exclaimed to me (Caleb) "why are you making me do this!" Can you say transition? Zeb was born shortly thereafter.

By 6:30 the midwife finished up post-deliver care and baby and mommy checks, giving everyone a clean bill of health. EthnieMay went back to sleep and we fell asleep too, getting in a couple good hours. We had breakfast as a family about 9, followed be another 3 hour nap for the newly expanded Whitmore family. We are so thrilled to have had a great day getting to rest and get to know little Zebaniah.

Now, I'm sure you want to meet him too, so here are a few pictures. Enjoy!

Papa Caleb weighing baby Zeb... or is that a large fish? No, it's a Zeb, 8 lbs, 4 oz.
